Class Valentine’s Party Games

I always find it easiest to set up the classroom in stations before the party. 3 Stations allow kids to stay engaged and adults to easily assist with each activity. The three stations at this party will be game, craft, and snack. For the game station:

1. Life Size Tic-Tac-Toe Tournament

This variation of a classic game will have a huge impact! Use masking tape to set up an oversized Tic-Tac-Toe board on the floor or in an open space such as the hallway. The bigger the better as the human-size scale of the game is half the fun! Assign 2 children to be player. The other kids in the group will be the “X” and “O” pieces. Assign X or O to the pieces using the back of a paper plate with an “X” or an “O” and attach a string so the person can wear it like a necklace around their neck. Have the players tell the pieces where to stand for a classic tic-tac-toe game. Gather the class around to cheer on the players in the final rounds.

2. Musical Hearts

Construction paper hearts with directives such as "jumping jacks" or "do a push up" in a circle for a game of musical hearts.

Like the classic game musical chairs, this activity will keep the kids on their toes! Instead of chairs, create a circle using “Musical Hearts” on the floor. The hearts can be made from construction paper or card stock and should have an activity or movement.. Some activity suggestions include Jumping Jacks, Ballerina Twirls, or pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time. If you want to reuse these, it’s a good idea to laminate them so they will not get ripped.

Setup: Arrange hearts in a large circle, with one fewer heart than the number of players. Start the Music: Have someone play music while everyone walks around the hearts (Make a Valentine’s theme playlist before the party to make this extra fun). Stop the Music: When the music stops, everyone must quickly find a heart to stand on. Have the players pick up their hearts and perform the action required. Elimination: The player left standing without a heart is out of the game. Remove one heart for the next round. Repeat: Start the music again and continue until only one player remains. That player is the winner!

Snacks for the Party

Snacks are a highlight of any Class Valentine’s Day Party! Here are some festive and easy-to-prepare options:

1. Valentine’s Popcorn Bar

A popcorn bar is a crowd-pleaser and allows kids to customize their snack based on preferences and food sensitivities/allergies. I like to start with Skinny Pop Popcorn as it is allergen friendly! Set up a table with a variety of toppings such as heart marshmallows, chocolate-covered pretzels, or red and pink M&Ms. Use mini scoops and provide small bags or cups for kids to fill with their favorite combinations.

2. Fruit Kabobs

Fruit is a healthy and colorful option for your celebration! Create heart-shaped fruit kabobs using strawberries, watermelon, and bananas. Simply slice the fruit and use heart-shaped cookie cutters for a fun presentation. Serve with a side of yogurt dip for extra flavor.

3. Valentine’s Cookie Decorating

Bake or purchase cookies and let the kids decorate them with Valentine-themed toppings like pink and red frosting, sprinkles, and candy eyes! There are many great kits this time of year that make shopping and set up easy and fun!

Easy Crafts

Crafts are a great way to keep kids engaged and give them something special to take home. Here are some easy and heart-themed crafts for your Valentine’s party craft station perfect for kids aged 5-10:

1. Puppy Heart Craft

What could be easier to love than a simple, no-mess puppy craft! Using readily available supplies like paper, google eyes, glue sticks, and an optional pom-pom, these puppies come together quickly and are easy enough for even the younger grades.

2. L-O-V-E Paintings

Have kids spell out the word LOVE in painter’s tape and paint a canvas with Valentine’s colors. When dry, remove the painter’s tape to reveal the world L-O-V-E. The final product is the first image in this post!

Recipe for the Perfect Class Valentine’s Party

Planning a class party doesn’t have to be overwhelming! Using these class Valentine’s party ideas teachers, support staff, room parents, and other parent volunteers can work together to provide the set up for 1 game, 1 snack, and 1 craft! It’s a fool proof party plan (I used this simple system for a Fall Class Party Plan too!) Setting up the three stations make it manageable for the adults. The small groups keep it fun and engaging for the kids.

As you plan this special celebration, remember that the most important part is to have fun celebrating the friendships in the classroom! Happy planning!
